In this model, the utility company transfers the license and the decommissioning fund to a third-party expert who manages the entire project from start to finish. This allows the utility to focus on its core business of power generation while the specialist firm leverages its economies of scale and technical expertise to complete the decommissioning more efficiently. This trend is creating a more consolidated and professionalized market landscape.

Looking ahead, the focus is shifting toward the decommissioning of non-power nuclear facilities, such as research reactors and fuel cycle plants. These facilities often present unique challenges due to the variety of isotopes and experimental setups involved. The flexibility and adaptability of modern decommissioning solutions will be tested as they are applied to these diverse environments. As the industry matures, the focus will remain on balancing technical excellence with economic viability, ensuring that the end of a nuclear facility's life is handled with the same level of rigor as its operation.
