Energy Storage Battery Materials India: Enabling Renewable Integration
Energy storage battery materials are the fastest-growing segment in India's battery material market, driven by the rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity and the need for grid stability. Battery energy storage systems are projected to be the fastest-growing segment with a 78% CAGR during 2025–30 . The expansion of the renewable energy sector in India is significantly influencing the battery material market, as solar and wind energy installations increase the need for energy storage solutions . The energy storage market in India is expected to reach $3 billion by 2025 .
Energy Storage: India Energy Storage Battery Materials Report
The demand for energy storage battery materials is creating new opportunities for manufacturers. India's ACC demand is projected to surge from 40 GWh in 2025 to around 700 GWh by 2030, with BESS being a major contributor . Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries are expected to remain the dominant chemistry globally due to their lower cost, enhanced safety, and longer life, driving demand for iron phosphate, graphite, conductive carbon black, carbon nanotubes, and electrolytes . Sodium-ion batteries are also emerging as a cost-effective alternative for stationary storage, with ARCI developing Sodium Vanadium Phosphate (NVP) cathode powder material and validating it through 5Ah pouch cells . The commercialisation of this technology, supported by a MoU with Voltasun Technologies, could provide a lower-cost, safer alternative to lithium-ion for grid storage . By 2035, energy storage battery materials are expected to be a major driver of the Indian battery material market, supporting the country's renewable energy goals.
