eznpc How to Farm Firecap for Caps and XP in Fallout 76
I remember thinking I was set when I left Vault 76, then five minutes later I was thirsty, irradiated, and broke. If you're in that same "how am I already sick?" phase, it helps to plan around one tiny thing: Firecap. I used to ignore it until I realised it's basically early-game healthcare, XP, and a quick cap-maker rolled into one, and if you ever decide you'd rather skip a few farming runs, browsing cheapest Fallout 76 items can be a handy shortcut while you learn the map.
What you're actually looking for
Firecap is a red mushroom with a bit of a glow to it, usually stuck to fallen logs, damp tree roots, or shaded patches where the ground stays dark. You won't always see it from a distance, so don't just sprint down the road. Slow down near wooded edges and check the sides of logs like you're scavenging screws. Once your eyes "click" to the colour, you'll start spotting it without trying. The big reason people chase it is simple: Disease Cure. Getting sick early is constant—dirty water, random critters, even a bad bed—and caps are tight when you're still looting ashtrays for pocket change.
A reliable Forest route that doesn't get you killed
Flatwoods is still the easiest place to build the habit. Start at the town fast travel point, then follow the river line and keep your camera aimed at logs and low, wet ground. Don't just stare at the water; the mushrooms love the banks and the tree line. When you've swept that stretch, swing out toward the nearby woods rather than cutting straight back through the road. After that, Morgantown Airport's outer areas are a decent second stop—stay around the trees and ditches instead of picking fights inside. You're not here to be a hero, you're here to leave with ingredients.
Turn mushrooms into caps before they rot
Grab Green Thumb as soon as you can. It's not exciting, but doubling harvested plants means your route suddenly feels worth it. Then craft fast—raw plants spoil, and there's nothing worse than opening your inventory and seeing half your haul turned to mush. At a Chemistry Station, pair Firecap with Bloodleaf for Disease Cure; the nice part is Bloodleaf grows right along the same water you're already following, so the loop feeds itself. Craft a stack, keep a few for yourself, and sell the rest to vendor bots for steady caps. If your route feels "empty," hop servers and run it again—Appalachia's memory is short.
When you'd rather play than grind
Some nights you just want to build, quest, or roam without doing the same river jog again. That's normal. I still farm Firecap when I'm low, but if you're trying to stay stocked on meds or you're chasing a specific resource for your build, using eznpc to pick up game currency or items can save time and keep the session fun, especially when you'd rather be exploring than counting mushrooms on wet logs.
