WoW Forever Rogue Guide: Energy, Combo Points, and DPS
WoW Forever’s Rogue talent changes aim to wow gold make Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety more distinct. However, one ability may be limiting how differently these specializations actually play: Slice and Dice.
Why Slice and Dice Is So Important
At its highest rank, Slice and Dice increases melee attack speed by 30%. Since Rogues rely heavily on auto-attacks, weapon effects, and poison procs, keeping this buff active is essential for sustained damage.
The problem is that maintaining Slice and Dice consumes Energy and Combo Points. These are the same resources Rogues need for other finishing moves, creating a constant choice between maintaining the buff and using abilities that deal direct damage or apply additional effects.
How Each Rogue Specialization Is Affected
Assassination
Assassination gains Mutilate for generating Combo Points and Venom, a new finishing move that increases poison damage and poison application chances. However, the specialization is expected to prioritize maintaining both Venom and Slice and Dice, potentially leaving less room for Eviscerate and Rupture.
Combat
Combat receives talents such as Flawless Execution, which reduces Eviscerate’s Energy cost by 10. While this makes the ability cheaper, it does not reduce its Combo Point requirement. Those points still compete with Slice and Dice, keeping the rotation focused on maintaining the buff and using Eviscerate.
Subtlety
Subtlety aims to make bleeds more important. Hemorrhage increases Rupture damage, encouraging players to maintain the bleed. Meanwhile, the planned replacement for Thousand Cuts, Death Mark, stores some damage dealt over six seconds before releasing it when the effect expires.
This creates competition between Slice and Dice, Rupture, and Death Mark for limited Energy and Combo Points. Players may struggle to maintain all three effectively.
Could Blizzard Fix the Rogue Rotation?
Simply increasing Energy regeneration could significantly raise Rogue damage, especially because auto-attacks and poison effects already contribute heavily to overall output.
Another possible solution is allowing damaging finishing moves to refresh Slice and Dice, similar to the Cut to the Chase talent in Wrath of the Lich King. This could free up resources for other abilities, but it might also increase DPS and require further balancing. Shifting damage from auto-attacks to stronger abilities could create additional problems in PvP.
Are Rogues Being Left Behind?
Blizzard intends Rogues to have the highest sustained single-target damage under ideal conditions. However, high damage does not necessarily mean engaging gameplay.
The central question is whether three specializations can truly feel different when all depend so heavily on maintaining Slice and Dice. Rather than simply adding damage or more abilities, Blizzard may need to reconsider how existing abilities interact.
With buy wow gold Death Mark’s final implementation still uncertain, Rogue players will be watching closely to see whether WoW Forever can deliver three genuinely distinct playstyles.
