U4GM Modern Warfare 4 Beta Weapons, Modes, and Dates

Call of Duty players will get their first proper hands-on time with Modern Warfare 4 in late August, and this beta looks bigger than the usual quick weekend test. Infinity Ward is splitting access across two sessions, so pre-order customers can get in early while everyone else gets a chance a week later. If you want to arrive with your settings sorted and your aim feeling less rusty, some players are already checking out CoD MW4 Bot Lobbies before the public servers fill up. It's not just about winning a few matches early. The beta should reveal whether the new movement, weapon handling, and map design actually hold up once people start playing seriously.

Early Access Starts on August 21

The first beta window runs from August 21 through August 25. It's aimed at anyone who has pre-ordered the game, though beta codes from promotions, creator giveaways, and livestream drops could open the door for others as well. Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC players are included from day one. That early period will likely be busy, but it may also be the better time to learn without every lobby turning into a full-on sweat fest. You'll probably notice the same thing most beta players do: the first few hours are messy. People test odd attachments, rush unfamiliar lanes, and discover which guns feel stronger than they should.

An Open Weekend With More Platforms

From August 28 until September 1, the beta becomes open to everyone. No pre-order and no code required. Nintendo Switch is also expected to join during this phase, which makes this one of the broadest Call of Duty beta tests in years. That matters because performance on Switch will be watched closely, especially in modes with larger player counts. Cross-platform play could make matchmaking feel much more active, too. For players who skipped the first weekend, this is the chance to jump in with friends, test controller and mouse settings, and see whether the game's pace suits them. Don't expect everything to be perfectly balanced, though. That's exactly what a beta is for.

Modes That Should Show the Game's Range

Infinity Ward has said the beta will feature up to 19 weapons, alongside a mix of small competitive modes and larger vehicle-based fights. The 3v3 Skirmish playlist should suit players who want quick rounds and constant pressure, while Ground War offers a completely different rhythm with armour, open spaces, and more players fighting over objectives. Search and Destroy is the standout inclusion. It rarely appears in a beta, yet it's one of the best ways to spot weak map routes, overpowered equipment, and questionable spawn logic. If you're trying to understand how a weapon behaves under pressure, a few tense Search rounds will tell you more than an hour of casual respawn matches. Players who want a lower-pressure way to practise routes and recoil may also look at a Bot Lobby MW4 before taking those tactics into live matches.

CoD Next, Kill Block, and the DMZ Question

CoD Next returns on August 21 as an online event rather than an in-person show, with creators expected to stream gameplay from home. The timing is handy: once the broadcast wraps up, early-access players can get straight into the beta and compare what they watched with how the game actually feels in their own hands. Kill Block is set to appear in the beta, although there's no confirmed standalone alpha for the mode. DMZ remains the bigger unanswered point. Activision hasn't said whether the extraction experience will receive a separate test or simply arrive with the full game on October 23. Until there's a clear announcement, multiplayer is the main focus. Learn the maps, try the objective modes, and don't get too attached to any weapon setup. Beta balance changes can come fast.
